First stop is Castle Stuart, a 17th century tower house complete with turrets approx. 4 miles to the east of Inverness before continuing, through the village of Ardersier to Fort George. Fort George is the best preserved fortress in Europe and is still in use as a military barracks. The Fort was completed in 1769 at a point near the village of Ardersier and now contains a museum as well as various fascinating reconstructions of of life as it was when the fort was first built. Now open to visitors it gives a unique insight into life in a fortress as it was in the 1700's and has a display of weapons in the magazine and in the museum.

Leaving Inverness travelling eastward we reach Culloden - Site of the last battle to be faught on the British mainland. The Jacobites led by Charles Edward Stuart, known as Bonnie Prince Charlie, were defeated by forces under the leadership of The Duke of Cumberland on the 16th April 1746. There is a modern visitor centre showing the battle details. The battlefield has a memorial cairn and the mass clan graves are clearly marked by headstones. A very short distance further is the prehistoric burial site known as the Clava stones and Cairns.

Leaving Inverness we travel on the A82 down the northern shore of Loch Ness - world famous for it's "monster" - Nessie. The Loch Ness Visitor Centre complete with audio/video presentations is located at the village of Drumnadrochit, 14 miles south of Inverness on the A82. We then travel a little further to the magnificently situated Urquhart Castle on the banks of Loch Ness. The castle remains an impressive stronghold despite its ruinous state. Once one of Scotland’s largest castles, Urquhart’s remains include a tower house that commands splendid views of the famous loch and Great Glen.

On this circular tour of Loch Ness we leave Inverness travelling on the A82 (on the north side of Loch Ness) to the village of Drumnadrochit stopping at The Loch Ness Monster Exhibition Centre before continuing to Urquhart Castle and it's Visitor Centre. The tour continues to the village of Fort Augustus before returning to Inverness on the south side of Loch Ness, stopping at the splendid Falls of Foyers en route.

Leaving Inverness we travel northwards over Struie Hill with its magnificent panoramic view over the Dornoch Firth and continue through the spectacular countryside of Sutherland to Dunrobin Castle. Dunrobin Castle, seat of the Earls and Dukes of Sutherland, is set in stunning formal gardens and has the appearance of a splendid French Chateau. Parts of the building were completed in the 1300's. It has been added to over the centuries and now very much has the appearance of a traditional fairytale castle.

Heading north from Inverness the first stop is in the famous spa village of Strathpeffer before continuing to the Falls of Rogie near the village of Garve. We continue northwestward through beautiful countryside until we reach the Corrieshalloch Gorge. Here a viewing platform and an information board overlook a long, deep box canyon with the magnificent Falls of Measach at one end. Coninuing northwest, we travel along the shores of Loch Broom to the picturesque fishing village of Ullapool where the Stornoway ferry docks.

Leaving Inverness by the Kessock Bridge we enter the the fertile lands of The Black Isle and continue to The Black Isle Country Park. Here you will see rare birds and animals before continuing to Cromarty where you can explore the ancient cathedral and Hugh Miller's Cottage. We continue to the little coastal town of Cromarty before returning to Inverness via the enchanted Cloutie Well.

Cawdor Castle is a tower house set amid magnificent gardens in the parish of Cawdor, approximately 10 miles (16 km) east of Inverness and 5 miles (8 km) southwest of Nairn in Scotland. It belonged to the Clan Calder. The castle is known for its beautiful gardens, including the Walled Garden the Flower Garden (18th century), and the Wild Garden (added in the 1960s). Brodie Castle is 24 miles east of Inverness and has unusual plaster ceilings, French furniture, paintings, European & Chinese porcelain. There's also a picnic area, tea room and gift shop, adventure playground with timber fort for the kids, woodland walks, gardens and lake.
